New Story up at Uncharted Magazine

Part One of my novelette, “Our Memories Are What We Fear Most”, debuts at Uncharted Magazine today! This is a science fiction story about revolution, eugenics, ableism, and the heartbreak between mothers and daughters.

This is also an incredibly important story to me. They all are, really, but there are so many real life stories of scientists electro-shocking autistic kids or terrifying them with mechanical spiders. This story is in response to that. I wanted to look at how disability is viewed by those in power over technology and imagine utopic tech developed by and for disabled people. I wanted to write about the way mothers who love their children are pressured to see their children as less and how that, in turn, affects those kids. And in the time I spent trying to get this published, I encountered some gross and heartbreaking anti-autistic bigotry from editors. Part of me feared it’d never find a home—but I didn’t want to give up on it. It means so much to me, and I’m so glad it finally is coming out!

I hope you enjoy it. Part Two concludes the story next Thursday!
