Short Bio

Sarah Salcedo is an award-winning filmmaker, illustrator, and author. She was the Spring 2022 Writer-in-Residence for Town Hall Seattle and attended both the 2022 Tin House Winter and Summer Workshops for her short fiction, and Stowe Story Labs for screenwriting. Her stories, essays, and poetry have been published in respected literary journals. Her first award-winning film, Promised Land, debuted in film festivals in 2016. She has received multiple grants from 4Culture and Artist Trust for her fiction and film work.

She currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with her partner and film collaborator, Vasant Salcedo.

Sarah Salcedo is an award-winning filmmaker, illustrator, and author. Her stories, essays, and poetry have been published in Identity Theory, Uncharted Magazine, Luna Station Quarterly, HAD, The Future Fire, Hypertext Magazine, and elsewhere. She was the Spring 2022 Writer-in-Residence for Town Hall Seattle and attended both the 2022 Tin House Winter and Summer Workshop.

She works alongside her partner and collaborator, Vasant Salcedo, at Tall Firs Cinema. Their feature documentary, Promised Land, debuted in select theaters fall 2016. It won the award for Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking at the 10th Annual LA Skins Fest, and was an official selection for the 41st Annual American Indian Film Festival, Northwest Film Forum's 19th Annual Local Sightings Film Festival, the 12th Annual Ellensburg Film Festival, and the 5th Annual Social Justice Film Festival, among others. Their feature screenplay, Fire Signs, was a Selected Project for Stowe Story Labs’ 2023 Writers’ Retreat in California. She is currently at work on her next two documentaries. Together they founded their studio, Tall Firs Cinema, as well as Understory Arts, a nonprofit that focuses on training and supporting nonfiction filmmaking through an artist-led coalition.

Her artwork has appeared in HAD, Hypertext Magazine, The Future Fire, Luna Station Quarterly, and elsewhere, in addition to numerous commissions from poets and writers for their sites and book tour promotions.

In addition to festival awards for filmmaking, Sarah has received grants from 4Culture and Artists Trust. She holds two bachelor’s degrees in English Literature and Comparative Literature: Cinema Studies from the University of Washington. She currently resides in the Pacific Northwest.
